Introduction of Embroidery Research & Development Center

1. Backgrounds and Purpose
Embroidery is part of the cultural heritage that has been passed on from earlier generations. Located at the junction of Mainland China and the Pacific Ocean, Taiwan has been greatly influenced by the eastern and western civilization. This precious ancient handicraft, embroidery, has been affected by multi-aspects even earlier and survived throughout history. Therefore, rich pieces of art works were kept till now. On the basis of this, we established the Embroidery Research & Development Center in February 2002, so as to promote the needlecrafts, furthermore, have this beauty of art in bloom and purify people’s minds.

2. Research: Present research focuses:
2.1 World embroidering technique.
2.2 Embroidery of Queen Martin Luther, Bayeur, France.
2.3 Embroidery of Martiniere, Germany.
2.4 Embroidery of Queen Mary(梅亞莉), Scotland.
2.5 Embroidery painting of Aristotle and Ferris (斐麗斯), Greece.
2.6 Embroidery history, monastery collection, European museums.
2.7 Taiwan embroiders the history
3. Teaching:
3.1 Teaching philosophy:
Focus on “Relaxing thinking”, which leads students’ thinking to “relax” and “calm” status to concentrate on embroidery.
3.2 Program:
(1) European hand embroidery technique.
(2) All computerized embroidering robot with mechanical-arm.
(3) Embroidery repairing.
(4) Embroidery art treatment.
(5) Embroidery stumpwork
3.3 Feature:
(1) Wall of embroidering stitches:
This is the first wall of embroidering stitches in the world. Two wall surfaces with length 323cm and height 212cm are used as the framework of the fabric, and embroidered similar to mosaic tile art portfolio.
There are about 1587 embroidering stitches worldwide, and 520 types have embroidered on the wall, and now start to the more complex and difficult European embroidering stitches.
(2) 3D gold embossment embroidery:
The embroidering material is the waste gold silk thread (about 1/5 of the hair) from computer component’s “electric conduction unit”, and use the jewel case embroidering stitches specially used by European royal houses during 14-17 centuries to develop “New Embroidery”, and turn the cold technology wastages to Taiwan’s “Creative Industry of New Embroidery Culture”.
(3) All computerized embroidering robot classroom
This is the only one teaching apparatus in Taiwan. The embroidery is designed by computer and then driven the embroidering robot by computer to complete lovely semi-hand embroidery art at a short period of time.

Earrings, rings, brooches, passport cover, spoons, shoe brushes and etc.
(2) Religion embroidery:
52 embroidery paintings of Christianity Genesis.
(3) 3D gold embossment embroidery.
(4) Sketch design of European lace embroidery (20 sketches).
(5) Repaired works: Costume and ornament of Ching Dynasty.
(6) Others:
Kremlin Palace Bishop’s embroidery crown, bishop’s sleevelet, embossment embroidery, scenery, Russia’s Golden Hair Boy, Jesus with Crucifix and etc.
